Drydocks World and Maritime World win in the 2015 Middle East Electricity Awards

Drydocks World and Maritime World, the international service providers to the shipping, offshore, oil, gas and energy sectors have received the award of excellence in the field of HSE (HSE Project / Initiative of the year) award. The “Zero Harm” initiative championed by DDWMW aims towards zero environmental and health harm. This initiative won the excellence award during the 2015 Middle East Electricity Awards which was held at Dubai World trade Centre on March 2nd 2015.

Winning this prestigious award is a testament to Drydocks World and Maritime World’s awareness on the importance of providing a safe and secure environment, ensuring the health of employees throughout the organization. The long-term visionary strategy of the group upholds the value of health and safety, providing employees with the required protection to mitigate any risks. This enables the group to develop cutting-edge innovative projects that benefit employees and key global partners.

“Zero Harm” initiative was launched in recognition of the importance of strengthening employee’s safety awareness and the benefits incurred by adhering to procedures for precautions against injury. The message of “Zero Harm” was cascaded down to every employee by introduction of innovative tools like “12 Life Saving Golden Rules.” Each of the rules was explained in detail using actual workplace scenarios for better understanding. “Take-5” was introduced in the form of a pocket cards which helped as a last minute reference of the Risk Assessment thereby leaving no room for human error. New employees were identified as “Short Service Employees” so that they stand out at site. Training needs analysis was carried out when the organization decided to focus on the Oil and Gas sector. Innovative methods of communication like translation of HSE key information into 13 foreign languages, poster & banner competitions etc. were adopted. This led to raising the level of the Group’s commitment to implementing the highest possible standards in health and safety and using such standards as a benchmark for judging the performance of other companies.  

Drydocks World and Maritime World follow a unique system of hazard identification, intervention and reporting that aims to involve every employee as a new pair of vigilant eyes on the site. The system was built to monitor all activities leading to potential risk throughout daily activities. Walkabouts and inspections are conducted on a regular basis to assess the actions and measure of health and safety. The results are presented to relevant departments and paired with recommendations in the required areas which need more improvement. The state-of-the-art medical center monitors occupational health and responds to emergencies when required.

Series of audits conducted by renowned international agencies and being rated as the “best in the region in terms of Occupational Health Safety & Environment performance showed that Drydocks World Group has achieved an outstanding role in providing security, safety and health through implementing an efficient and effective strategy to strengthen the organizations position as a role model in the field of security and safety to formulate a vision that institutionalizes HSE. Drydocks World has been conferred with the “Sword of Honour” by the British Safety Council on 10 occasions and has been rated as a Five Star facility by the British Safety Council for the last 11 years.

HE Khamis Juma Buamim, Chairman of Drydocks World and Maritime World expressed his honor to win this award, reaffirming that the Occupational Health & Safety Management system adopted by the group have helped to scale new heights of excellence and instill a strong culture that supports actions in health, safety and environmental areas.

This commitment reflects the high standards we value in maintaining safety."

Currently Drydocks World & Maritime World Management Systems are certified to ISO 9001:2008, API Specification Q1, EMS ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001 and ASME certification of authorization. Drydocks World had 14 audits successfully completed starting from the year 2012 to the year 2014 to covering HSEQ by our global clients.

 

Drydocks World has completed DolWin beta the world’s largest HVDC Offshore Wind Platform with total of 3 million man hours without LTI, building the world’s largest turret for first Shell’s pioneering Prelude Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) facility with total of 4 million man hours without LTI. Also, Drydocks World has completed the Solan subsea oil storage tank with total of 5 million man hours without LTI. Also it has completed the conversion of the first Modular Capture Vessel Eagle Texas and Eagle Louisiana with a total of 3 million man hours without LTI to be used in the Gulf of Mexico and the US. At the end of 2014 Drydocks World achieved 14 million man hours without LTI out of 25 million man hours.

 

The HSE management system at Drydocks World and Maritime World is handled by experienced professionals in the field. Crews are trained for emergency response situations in order to respond to eventualities of any nature and scale; thereby ensuring the organization continues its march towards “Zero harm to people and environment”.
